Gregory River - Riversleigh

With a new millennium approaching, I have put together a special exhibition of paintings. These include places and themes that have always held some kind of magic for me.

During the last twenty five years I have wandered all over Australia. One thing that always captivates me is our intense light. From the shores of Sydney Harbour to the escarpments of the outback, the clarity of light and intensity of colour is something that continues to inspire.

This exhibition is a collection of paintings drawing on various themes I have been fascinated by for the past twenty five years. It includes works based on the Sydney Harbour foreshore - vivid Ultramarines and Cobalts, contrasting with the rich terracotta, typical of Federation Sydney. These paintings contrast in subject with the Riversleigh paintings - stark, dramatic landscapes, but are related by the intense light and vibrant colour. There are also works exploring colour and texture - The flower paintings and industrial studies. Riversleigh also provided inspiration for the D - site studies above.
